Welcome to the Columbia River Young Marines

Columbia River Young Marines in Washington, DC

Ten Columbia River Young Marines, accompanied by CRYM staff, traveled to Washington, DC, over Spring Break. We began our adventure by visiting the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, VA, and eating lunch there in the "Mess Hall." It was there our Young Marines got the chance to meet Mr. Robert LaChance. Mr. LaChance has the distiction of being the first Young Marine ever - joining the very first unit in Waterbury, CT, in 1959. He currently manages Tun Tavern on the second deck of the museum. He very graciously took a few minutes from his very busy day to speak to us. Later that day we made our way to Young Marines National Headquarters where we met with National Staff members. The next three days found us touring the Pentagon, Arlington Cemetery, Marine Barracks 8th and I, the Navy Yard, the National Mall, and two Smithsonian museums. It was a very busy week with many wonderful sights to see and lots of walking around our National Capitol. Please visit our scrapbook page to view pictures of our trip to Washington, DC!
